Enquiry Service

It is a fact that no matter how well your business is maintained and run, HM Revenue and Customs can enquire into your affairs seemingly on a whim. These inquiries may be of no more than a couple of questions and take a short while to resolve, or they can last a significant time and be quite complex, possibly even giving rise to criminal proceedings!

That you have an enquiry does not mean that your accountant has done anything wrong! But should you have suffered a loss of confidence, whatever the reason, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We can deal with each step of the enquiry and attend any meetings with you, or host these as required. We will keep you advised and aware of proceedings at every step. Please give us a call should you require our services.

We detail below various forms of enquiry.

Routine Enquiries

There are several enquiries which are, in essence, routine and exist to ensure that as a business, you are doing the paperwork correctly.

PAYE and VAT visits

Often dreaded, but very much a part of 'compliance'. These are checks carried out to ensure that all is as it should be. In the event of serious error these can lead to 'bigger things', but they are a general check on records and record keeping.

Aspect Enquiry

The most common form of personal enquiry (currently) is that of the aspect enquiry.

This is simply a request by HM Revenue and Customs for some further detail behind an entry, or entries made on your Tax Return.

The associated costs with this enquiry are usually low and with enquiry fee protection may become negligable.

Investigations

These are where HM Revenue and Customs seek to dig far deeper into the affairs, often both business and personal, of business owners.

These can cover one tax year, or many and costs associated with this form of inquiry can soon mount up.

In their most serious instances, investigations can lead to criminal prosecution and further prosecution under the 'Proceeds of Crime Act'.
